Engineering is often misunderstood. Many teachers and careers advisors have no real insight into the variety of careers that young people can pursue in the world of engineering and advanced manufacturing, but TCEP is here to change that.
Our ‘Information for Educators’ event aims to tackle common misconceptions around careers in engineering and show participants why this is an incredibly rewarding and exciting sector for young people to join.
Funded by the Scottish Government as part of the TCRD, Tay Cities Engineering Partnership (TCEP) has been established to inspire young people to pursue careers in engineering and manufacturing to meet the skills demand and growth of this evolving sector as well as boost regional economic growth in Tayside.

TCEP recently welcomed 18 teachers and career advisors to the Engineering Partnership Innovation Centre (EPIC) hosted by Dundee and Angus College at the Arbroath Campus, where we ran two sessions to educate attendees on the opportunities and career pathways available in the engineering sector across Tayside.
The purpose of the event is for educators who attend to take away the information they’ve learned about engineering and manufacturing careers, enabling them to feel confident to advise students and young people on careers in engineering and advanced manufacturing.
After learning how young people can get involved in this exciting sector, participants were able to get hands-on with the equipment and facilities with the support of the Dundee & Angus college team. This included making their own model with 3D printers, taking part in virtual reality welding and programming our cobot to perform tasks.
From the session, TCEP were able to get feedback from teachers and careers advisors on how they felt the facilities at EPIC could be utilised to engage and inspire young people which has led to a series of other events aimed specifically at both primary and secondary school children.

This has included visits to local schools, our STEM Careers Fair held in collaboration with Science Futures and our S3 Taster Sessions.
